Frequently Asked Questions.

What you should know about receiving a massage.

You can schedule an appointment by calling the office at 779-234-5114, or using the contact form located on the contact page of the website. Please note that we are by appointment and are typically booked 2-4 weeks out. Walk-in clients cannot be accommodated. To make certain that each client receives our best work, and we limit the number of clients each therapist sees per day. If your first choice of appointment day and time is not available, we recommend you schedule for an alternate date, and we can place you on our call list to “Fill the Gap” if another client cancels.

Our office is located at 15905 S. Frederick Street, Suite 101 in Plainfield, IL 60586. We are centrally located off of Renwick Road, just east of Route 59.

First time clients are asked to complete a brief intake and health history form. At every visit you and I will discuss what you want to receive from your session, how you are doing, and any particular concerns you may have. The pre-session interview DOES NOT cut into your table time! Time spent talking about expectations and changing  is not counted as table time. A 60 minute massage is a full 60 minutes of table time!

You should undress to your level of comfort. Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you .You will be properly draped and covered during the entire session. I will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table and cover yourself with a clean sheet. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

A typical full-body massage will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders.  If there are specific areas you would like avoided, please let me know. At no time will a “sensual massage” be provided….don’t even ask!

This depends on the type of massage you receive. In general, a relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. Pressure will be lighter to start and as your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. A light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES TO NUTS AND NUT OILS.   You should let me know immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

In one word….RELAX and BREATHE!  OK, so that’s two words. The only time life is every truly all about you is when you are on the massage table. Prior to the massage, feel free to ask me any questions about the technique or the upcoming session….if you have a musical preference, let me know, and I will try to accommodate you. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. I will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the massage session  (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax: communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

It is your session, talk if you like.  Some clients like to talk during the session, some meditate and prefer silence, others snore. I will follow your lead. I will always check-in and make sure the pressure is comfortable and will let you know what is needed from you. During a deep tissue massage, your feedback is needed and I will ask more questions about pressure and your level of comfort.

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days.

Massage and bodywork can help release chronic tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Yes. That’s why it’s imperative that before you begin your session, I ask general health questions. It is very important that you inform me of any health problems or medication you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

The logo for Tranquility Massage and Bodywork is a lotus flower. It has seven colors and seven different petal patterns, representing the seven main chakras (energy centers) of the body. I learned about the chakras during my Reiki training and when I saw this flower I fell in love with it…so much so I made it permanent…not only as my business logo, but as my first tattoo.
